YUKIO ENDO was a perennial all-around champion during the period when the Japanese men dominated the world gymnastics scene. Born in Akita-ken in 1937, Yukio Endo attended the University of Education in Tokyo, where his legendary status in gymnastics began.
For four years, he was the All-Around Champion of Japan, defeating legions of athletes who are to this day are legends in their own right. In the 1960 Olympics, in Rome, Yukio Endo earned the first of his four Olympic gold medals, for the team championship. At the 1962 World Championships, in Prague, he won seven medals: one team gold, four silvers-including the all-around-and two bronze.

Yukio Endo received Japan's highest honor, the Emperor's Medal, in 1996. today, he serves as the Vice President of the Japanese Gymnastics Association and coach for Nippon University in Tokyo.
